Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus Condemns GOP for Giving Platform to Antisemitic Conspiracy Theorists at House Oversight Hearing
MDJC Chair Noah Arbit calls witnesses invited by House Republicans likening COVID-19 vaccination passports to yellow stars foisted upon Jews during the Holocaust “shameful,” says Michiganders will end Republicans’ extreme agenda in 2022
WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. — Noah Arbit, founder and chairman of the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus, issued the following statement in response to today’s Michigan House Oversight Committee hearing, in which several witnesses invited by House Republicans repeatedly invoked antisemitic conspiracy theories likening theoretical COVID-19 vaccination passports to yellow stars foisted upon Jews by the Nazi regime:
“I could say that I am shocked by Republicans’ willingness to debase the Michigan House by shamelessly giving platforms to known antisemites and conspiracy theorists, but that would be a lie. Today’s lie-filled, hate-filled House Oversight Committee hearing is just another egregious example of the Michigan Republicans’ descent into the darkest depths of extremism, as they become increasingly beholden to fringe conspiracies and seek to undermine our democracy. It is no wonder that Jewish Michiganders, and all Michiganders who cherish truth, democracy, and the rule of law, will not hesitate to put an end to the Republicans’ extreme agenda in Lansing in 2022.”
